Turbo tax amend keeps crashing while downloading .tax file

While reports on it so far have shown it to be far less bug-filled than its predecessor, the infamous Version , this update is still in its early stages and has already been known to cause some stability issues with some specific software titles, TurboTax being one of them.

According to Intuit, who releases TurboTax, TurboTax does indeed experience an authentication conflict during installation with the Windows 20H2 update — similar to what's described above. One of the quirks of Windows 10 is that it places all Windows accounts as subordinates with restricted accesses to certain system tasks even if there is only one on the PC. This is done not as a nuisance but as a means of better protecting system files from unwanted or unnecessary changes. To bypass this setting on a case-per-case basis, such as for a specific installation, simply right-click over the TurboTax installation file you downloaded and select "Run as Administrator" from the menu that appears instead of just double-clicking on the installation file.

The IRS will automatically correct those for you. Also, do not file an amended return if you forgot to attach tax forms, such as a Form W-2 or a schedule. The IRS will mail you a request for them in most cases. Some taxpayers may receive a second Form A because the information on their initial form was incorrect or incomplete. If you filed a tax return based on the initial Form A and claimed the premium tax credit using incorrect information from either the federally-facilitated or a state-based Health Insurance Marketplace, you should determine the effect the changes to your form might have on your return.

Comparing the two Forms A can help you assess whether you should file an amended tax return, Form X. Three-year time limit. You usually have three years from the date you filed your original tax return to file Form X to claim a refund. You can file it within two years from the date you paid the tax, if that date is later. That means the last day for most people to file a claim for a refund is April 18, April 19 for taxpayers in Maine and Massachusetts.

This will stop interest and penalties from adding up. Did you make a simple math mistake? Those types of errors are automatically corrected by the IRS. If you choose to mail your amended return: Create and print a PDF of your amended return, including the amended Form X for the Federal and a copy of any forms that were changed or affected. Be sure to sign your amended return, too. Simple mistakes like a forgotten signature will slow down the processing time.

Once you have printed, reviewed, and attached all necessary forms to your amended federal return, mail it to the Internal Revenue Service Center for the state that you live in. Click here to find the address for your state.

It will take the IRS twelve weeks or so to process your federal amended return. There is a good chance that the changes you make to your federal return will also affect your state return. Most states calculate taxable income based on information you provide on your federal return. For this reason, you may need to amend your state income tax return, too. So in this regard it falls very short. Having to constantly switch back and fourth between this app and a PDF of your tax doc to copy and paste every date and amount takes away also from the security of being sure that your taxes are being done correctly, as you are at that point, for the most part, just doing it yourself.

AND being charged an extra 70 dollars to do so. This with the fact that the app constantly closes in the background while you try to copy over your tax info, forcing you to reload the app, and go back through several menus before you can actually begin entering your tax info again.

It would seem to take a good hour to enter in roughly 20 trades with having to copy over, amount, cost, proceeds and 2 dates one at a time for every single trade. For this reason I have to highly discourage this for any new or also experienced traders and investors thinking that this will make filing easier.

It will be very time consuming. Hi there, We appreciate you taking the time to share this feedback with us. It's unfortunate to hear that our app did not meet your expectations. Please know that we're always looking for ways to improve our product and will share this with our app developers. For your convenience, we suggest that you try using TurboTax Online as an alternative to complete your return as it may be easier to navigate while you enter your investments. I used the TurboTax app to file my refund in early February.

The app was relatively easy to use, but it did get old going in circles sometimes. Unfortunately, the free option really is not usable. Of course, no student discount. Honestly, that was not too bad since I was supposed to get a lot back. Unfortunately, that was not what happened. I did get some from one the state returns, but that was it.

If you want help with that, guess what? It will cost you even more money! Eventually I got it figured out, but not without massive disruption to my school work.
